It began with a
mixed marriage. In 1920 a child was born and named Subba Rao. His name meant snake god, but the Lord God Almighty had another purpose in mind for Subba. Subba grew up and married Lydia, the daughter of a Lutheran pastor named John. Subba changed his name to Prasada, meaning God's Gift. John preached, but lacked a personal relationship with Christ. He accepted Christ after being challenged by an American Missionary. Prasada loved Lydia and learned a small bit about Christianity. But it was through John's prayers that Prasada came to Christ through a series of miraculous visions. Prasada and his
family lived in poor conditions, yet they were faithful to
God's calling.
In 1971 IREF was formally recognized in India to raise funds for the ministry. It was during this time that Samba's son Emmanuel married a woman named Dee. Emmanuel and Dee traveled to the US to study. On this trip Emmanuel and Dee met Art Gay who helped establish an IREF board in the US and in 1984 IREF built it's first children's home. Today, IREF sponsors over 200 evangelists, operates several orphanages housing over 2,000 children and has education facilities from elementary schools to college.
